Overview of the Char Dham Route from Haridwar

Haridwar serves as the traditional gateway to Uttarakhand’s sacred dhams. From here, the route follows a clockwise direction as prescribed in Hindu scriptures: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath. Each dham holds deep spiritual significance and is associated with a unique deity and mythological story.

Destinations Covered

1. Yamunotri
The first dham in the circuit, Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River. Pilgrims trek from Janki Chatti (around 6 km) to reach the temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The path is scenic and lined with natural hot springs and mountain views.

2. Gangotri
Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the Gangotri Temple is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. It is accessible by road and is considered one of the most serene and spiritually uplifting parts of the yatra.

3. Kedarnath
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath is located at an altitude of 3,583 meters.
